Slaves to the Books
Slaves to the Books
by SyaNidal
Born into a time, when bein’ poor was just fine
I was happy nonetheless just explorin’ the sunshine
Every mornin’ was adorin’ - wakin’ on the floor
-and;
even the most morbid, horrid pourin’ still seemed sublime
But we were victims of gun crime, who sifted the front lines
Gifted with one life that was shipped over rough tides
Shoved below the decks in the darkness of shut eyes
Sparks in the gut fly, this is part of where love hides
As they take me to their land; do they realize I love mine?
Where just bein’ a kid, growin’ up – wasn’t a tough time!
Breathed with our lungs tied, how I’m missin’ the kisses
Wishin’ for visits of lips this exquisite and some pride.
Seems like I’ve been under this deck, for an eternity now
‘til I heard the beach plow beneath the boats murdering bow.
They’re not concerned with me – how I’m shackled and locked
In a practical spot, for selling males, with the blackest in stock
In fact with this plot; he’s sellin’ chains by the family
I was the purchase, forced to work with slaves by the stampede
Two years pass, I’m fuckin’ amazed and I can’t breathe
Insane - in a daze, seein’ the face that my hands seek
Plus I can’t speak; best to know I get lashes for that
If I show signs of love, there’s a man crackin’ my back
With a whip at the tip, “do it for the chick ‘cause she’s sick,
Or do it for the love; that you missed on the ship.”
We couldn’t read or write, just slaves to the books
And a bastard of a master; we gave and he took
He slays when we look – to teach ourselves anything
Toward self bettering or knowledge to spell, lettering
So tell me, who’s the better king – the slave or the master
One digs the grave to his laughter while he prays for disaster
The other gets paid for his bad work, destruction of strong binds
There’s nothing quite as deadly for those in love as a long time
I was stuck in the wrong mind; punched this fuck in his jaw line
In an effort to stall time I hugged something once called mine
Firing Squad!
“Machine of the racist, blew our teeth through our faces
‘cause love is something better kept beneath all the pages.”

Re: Slaves to the Books
First off I want to say this, those people above really need to read how to give proper feedback...With that being said.
I think this piece has a lot of emotional content, that was executed extremely well.
The vocabulary was very descriptive which held this piece together, loved the fact you threw multies in there, you've got a certain "finesce" the way you use them.
The flow/Style of writing was defenetly impressive, I can see that you've drastically stepped your game up for writing this piece. In my opinion, this OM here, is quality in which some have barely seemed to touch these past few months. So this is why I'm going to nominate this piece for the OM HOF.
Top notch writing such as this deserves recognition and you my friend do deserve this.

Re: Slaves to the Books
wow
I was caught up in this from the first 3 lines, that's crazy. Can tell you a true lyricist. Loved how you used your words, didn't overpower the verse with unnecessary words like some kats. Properly use your word usage, that's wassup. Cause lately I been readin alot of shit that makes me think "This mofo so smart they stupid" cause they just put in big words randomly with no particular purpose but to prove they know some dictionary, dig? This shit was hot though

Re: Slaves to the Books
Thank you. For making something worth reading in this forum. God... I feel so justified in hating this forum and wanting it deleted until I read something like this. Great piece. Something different from the classic I'm so sad I want to kill myself drop. It was well thought out, emotional, and written very well. I enjoyed it.
Two thumbs up.
